The Race Card – Apparently Robots are not Immune

The buzz over the summer blockbuster “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” only grew Wednesday as some said two jive-talking Chevy characters were racial caricatures.

This is either a publicity stunt to get even more attention for this movie or the single worst case of playing the race card in the history of civilization.

You know, race is still a serious subject in this country. Even though society has made many strides toward equality, and it’s easier to talk about than it once was, there are still a lot of injustices that occur on a daily basis. Using it to promote a movie is probably one of the most despicable things I can think of.

But it would actually be worse if someone were actually offended by this and spoke out as a result.

Optimus Prime Anyone?

I think this guy has seen the Transformers movie a few times too many:

Carlos Owens had handled all kinds of machines as an army mechanic, but he always dreamed of using those skills for one project: his own “mecha,” a giant metal robot that could mirror the movements of its human pilot.

Owens, 31, began building an 18-foot-tall, one-ton prototype at his home in Wasilla, Alaska, in 2004. Working without blueprints, he first built a full-scale model out of wood. Moving on to steel, he had to devise a hydraulics system that would provide precisely the right leverage and range of movement. He settled on a complex network of cables and hydraulic cylinders that can make the mecha raise its arms, bend its knees, and even do a sit-up.
